Advanced notice of further testing at Severn power Station
DONG Energy, owners of the new 840 MW combined cycle gas fired Severn Power station at Uskmouth, are giving residents of Newport and the surrounding area notice that testing of the second boiler line is due to start early next week. Some people may therefore experience disturbance for limited periods during the following 14 days.
Director Ian Crummack explained: “We are currently running safety tests on the twin boilers which will generate steam to create electricity. Hissing noises may be heard at some distance from the power station while these vital safety tests are carried out, particularly when steam is diverted from the boiler to the bypass system.”
The company emphasises that these tests are absolutely critical in order to establish the safety and operational efficiency of the plant. They are making every effort to minimise any adverse impact on their neighbours and will be investing £2 million in noise attenuation to make sure that there will be no disturbance during normal operation.
