History

Energy policy
Today, most of Poland’s electricity production is based on coal-fired and lignite-fired power stations, but according to Polish law, an increasing part of the electricity consumption must be covered by non-conventional and renewable sources in the near future. This is where wind power can play an important role.

Wind energy resources are strongly interconnected with local climate and terrain conditions. Particularly good wind conditions occur along the Baltic coast, especially in its western stretch, and in Poland’s north-eastern corner.

In 2008, the wind energy production in Poland accounted for approximately 0.5% of total domestic consumption of electricity. According to government plans, wind turbines should generate 2.3% of domestic energy consumption by 2020. To achieve this target, at least 2000MW wind power must be installed. The Jagniatkowo wind farm provides a renewable, CO2 free production capacity of 30,6MW helping to meet the Polish climate targets of 15% CO2 reduction before year 2020 compared to 1990 emissions.
