Festive naming ceremony of accommodation platform
Mayoress Birgit Søtrup named the accommodation platform “Poseidon” and wished good luck on the journey. Wednesday, 22 October, 150-200 guests had shown up to witness the naming, and celebrate the handover of the accommodation platform from Semco to DONG Energy. DONG Energy will use it to accommodate wind technicians on Horns Rev 2 Offshore Wind Farm.

The guests enjoyed the sunny weather in between the thunder showers. The weather window lasted exactly two hours!
The red carpet was rolled out, a flower girl of eight years was holding the bouquet and the bottle was ready to be thrown – everybody was waiting for the moment of release when the bottle would be broken and the name Poseidon revealed from underneath the cloth. However, the excitement came to last a couple of extra minutes because the bottle did not break until after a few attempts. This only intensified the attention of the crowd, and when she finally succeeded, god mother Birgit Søtrup was awarded with a large round of applause.

Freja Overbeck played the part of flower girl. Freja is eight years old and in the second grade.
The accommodation platform weighs 422 tonnes, is three storeys high and consists of 750 square metres of personnel rooms as well as a basement. It is the first time in history that an accommodation platform is used in connection with an offshore wind farm. What motivated this solution is the fact that Horns Rev 2 is located more than two hours away from the shore by boat, and with 91 turbines maintenance will be needed most days of the year. When the wind technicians have the opportunity of living on the platform, all they have to do is sail between the turbines and thereby they save quite a significant amount of transport to and from Esbjerg.
