Offshore substation
Each of the 48 turbines generates electricity at a voltage of 33kV.The offshore substation collects the electricity from all the wind turbines and steps the voltage up to 132kV for the local grid.
From the substation the electricity is transmitted to shore via a 8.5km long submarine cable which comes ashore at Holland Haven and connects to the Clacton substation at Cooks Green.
Export cable and onshore substation
The electricity export cable from the offshore wind farm comes ashore at Holland Haven. The map shows the cable route from the landfall at Holland Haven to the existing substation at Cooks Green.

Onshore cabelling
Three separate power cables and a small communications cable were laid in a 'trefoil' arrangement, using a combination of open trenching and installation in ducts.
