Thanks to our engagement in a wide range of projects in Denmark and abroad, we have built up considerable expertise with project management and the use of relevant project management tools for complex projects comprising numerous sub-contractors and contracts.

Our project managers have extensive hands-on experience in contracting, contract negotiations, and project follow-up in close cooperation with the owners and other consultants.

Project organisation
Our project organisation is set up according to the matrix principle, and the project work is carried out in self-governing large or small-targeted project groups headed by a project manager with the overall project responsibility. This gives a close and intimate relationship with our clients and the best allocation of our resources.

For use within project management and follow-up on projects DONG Energy employs, among others, the following project management tools, of which some have been developed in-house:

• The project budget is followed closely and controlled by means of a sophisticated finance and budget management system, BERTHA, which also offers various facilities for evaluation purposes.
• A very high number of deliveries can be planned, coordinated and followed-up on using an advanced time schedule program capable of keeping track of several hundred activities at a time.
• The allocation of project resources is controlled using DONG Energy’s own resource management system.
• Technical data and technical documentation as well as drawings are registered and managed using a component database, the KKS-Dok.

Know-how
From consultancy services and design and planning activities for the construction of entire power plants and other process plants, DONG Energy has gained know-how and hands-on experience within the full range of relevant consultancy services from project management - including public authority negotiations - to detailed engineering of electrical installations, machinery and civil works, preparation of tender documents, tender evaluation and contract negotiations as well as quality assurance, supervision and commissioning.

Besides a number of specialists covering the above-mentioned commercial and technical project activities, DONG Energy counts a range of specialists covering a series of supplementary disciplines, such as advanced technical calculations for electrical installations, machinery and civil works; noise and vibration; as well as chemistry and materials science.

Contracting philosophy
The project process depends on the philosophy chosen for the contracting: turnkey or the multi-contract approach. During our many years in the business, DONG Energy has become familiar with both philosophies, either according to the provisions of FIDIC, our own in-house customised commercial conditions, or the Danish general conditions for consulting services, ABR.

Basically the aim of our consultancy services is to ensure that our client gets:

• The desired concept at the lowest price on the market.
• A flexible, optimised and efficient plant adapted to applicable operating conditions.
• A plant design based on maximum availability, easy accessibility and low maintenance costs.
• The plant at the expected price and at the agreed time.

Project management
The full time schedule of a project is determined together with our client when first starting the project; however, a typical procedure for the construction of a power plant will be as follows:

• Determination of main data and an overall specification of the project
• Preparation of tender documents
• Tender evaluation, tender negotiations and contracting
• Detailed engineering of civil works
• Detailed engineering of auxiliary systems
• Follow-up on contracts in respect to milestones, quality and budget
• Shop inspection and site supervision
• Commissioning and realisation take-over tests and guarantee tests
