Safety
Natural gas vehicles must meet the same safety demands and tests as petrol vehicles. Natural gas tanks are dimensioned within a safety margin, enabling them to withstand a much higher pressure than what they can be exposed to. The system is closed, preventing escaping gas when refuelling.
The risk of fire and explosions during collisions are lower compared to petrol and diesel because natural gas weighs less than air, and will rise instead of spread onto the road, and because natural gas has a higher ignition temperature.
