The world's largest offshore wind turbine agreement

The world's largest offshore wind turbine agreement
In 2009 DONG Energy awarded Siemens the world’s largest framework agreement to date for the supply of offshore wind turbines. The contract will strengthen DONG Energy's leading position within the production of wind power.
  • Signing the world’s largest offshore wind turbine agreement
  • Up to 575 wind turbines with a total capacity of up to 2,070 MW
  • Supplying wind turbines for DONG Energy’s coming wind farms in Northern Europe
The recent agreement, under which Siemens will supply up to 575 wind turbines for DONG Energy’s coming offshore wind farms in Northern Europe, is the world’s largest offshore wind turbine framework agreement to date and will strengthen DONG Energy’s leading position within renewable energy. We have consequently taken a major step towards streamlining offshore wind farm construction projects.

Significant growth and business potential
DONG Energy has built approximately half of all offshore wind farms in operation in the world to date. Offshore wind is one of the fastest growing renewable energy technologies, and by signing this framework agreement DONG Energy has lined itself up for major business and growth potential.

A2SEA
In addition to signing the contract with Siemens, DONG Energy and Siemens own also acquired A2SEA in 2009. A2SEA is a market leading supplier of installation vessels for the construction of offshore wind farms. This acquisition will also help to make the installation of offshore wind turbines even more efficient and flexible, facilitating faster completion and commissioning of wind farms.

Total capacity of up to 2,070 MW
The wind turbines to be supplied by Siemens under the framework agreement will have a total capacity of up to 2,070 MW. Each turbine has a capacity of 3.6 MW, which is similar to the turbines in operation at DONG Energy's Burbo Bank offshore wind farm in Liverpool Bay and DONG Energy's Gunfleet Sands offshore wind farm in the Thames Estuary.
