Pipelines – connecting North Sea fields to Europe’s natural gas infrastructure
DONG Energy has stakes in a number of pipelines that transport natural gas from producing fields in the North Sea to the European natural gas infrastructure.
- Co-ownership of Tyra West–F3 pipeline and Gassled
- 100% ownership of the Tyra-Nybro and Syd Arne-Nybro pipelines, which transport natural gas from the Danish sector of the North Sea to Denmark
- Gaining strategic access to natural gas markets
Energy Markets is responsible for DONG Energy’s European natural gas infrastructure activities. A strong infrastructure is important in terms of security of supply, and DONG Energy has stakes in a number of natural gas pipelines, which, for example, connect the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC) fields and the Central Graben Area in the North Sea with the Danish and European natural gas infrastructure.
Strong presence in Northern Europe
We have stakes in important natural gas infrastructure assets in Northern Europe. DONG Energy has 100% ownership of two pipelines, Tyra-Nybro and Syd Arne-Nybro, which transport natural gas from the Danish sector of the North Sea into the Danish natural gas transmission system.
Moreover, we own 50% of the Tyra West–F3 subsea pipeline connecting the Danish and Dutch continental shelves; and 49% of the Deudan natural gas pipeline system, which connects the Danish and German transmission networks.
Co-ownership of the world's largest offshore pipeline system
In addition, DONG Energy has a stake in Gassled, the world’s largest offshore pipeline system. This 7,800-km natural gas pipeline system transports almost all Norwegian natural gas to continental Europe and the UK. The large Ormen Lange natural gas field, of which DONG Energy owns approximately 10%, is connected to the Gassled system.
Strategic advantages
As a natural gas pipeline stakeholder, we have high priority when booking capacity. We also gain strategic access to the natural gas markets in the UK and Northern Europe, where we sell our natural gas from our own production. This access provides new market opportunities and commercial arrangements, putting us in a better position to redirect natural gas between markets.
Diversifying future natural gas supplies
By developing our natural gas infrastructure and proactively entering into new natural gas supply contracts, DONG Energy is further diversifying its future natural gas supplies, ensuring future flexibility.
