Thermal power generation
DONG Energy’s thermal power production comes from our 10 central power stations, nine small-scale power plants, and six Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plants.
Central power stations
We produce more than 80% of our electricity at our central power stations, which can handle up to 5,372 MW. We regularly update and expand them as necessary. Eight out of 10 of these stations combine heat and power (CHP) production for much greater efficiency and minimised environmental impact.
Small-scale power stations
We produce electricity at nine small-scale power stations with a capacity of 216 MW. These highly efficient stations combine heat and power production.
CHP plants primarily use biomass, such as straw and wood chips or natural gas as fuel.
Waste-to-Energy plants
We produce electricity at six Waste-to-Energy plants located in Jutland and on Funen with a combined installed capacity of 94 MW.
Like the majority of our other plants, these combine heat and power production, achieving fuel efficiency ratios of 90-95%. Because most of the fuels are CO2 -neutral, the plants are also much more cost-efficient.
