FordonsGas: An ecolabelled partnership
DONG Energy owns half of FordonsGas Sverige AB that operates and supplies gas filling stations in Sweden with fordonsgas. Fordonsgas is a mixture of natural gas and CO2-neutral biogas, and therefore less CO2 per km is emitted compared to petrol. So far FordonsGas Sverige AB is the only company that promotes and sells the Nordic ecolabelled fordonsgas.
- Using biogas in the transport sector
- Less CO2 per km is emitted compared to petrol
- The world’s first car fuel that carries the Nordic Ecolabel
Through our partnership with Göteborg Energi AB we own 50 percent of FordonsGas Sverige AB that operates and supplies 28 car and bus filling stations in Sweden with fordonsgas. The filling stations are located in the western part of Sweden.
A mixture of biogas and natural gas
Fordonsgas consists of both natural gas and biogas. Biogas is a CO2-neutral energy source produced from farmyard manure, wastewater and industrial waste. Biogas is classified as CO2-neutral. The amount of CO2 emitted by a vehicle running on biogas is equivalent to the amount of CO2 the plants - used for the biogas - absorbed while growing. This balances the CO2 account.
Methane gas for cars and buses
Fordonsgas is the generic term for methane gas for cars. Vehicles with a petrol or diesel engine cannot run on fordonsgas. However, an increasing amount of car manufactures have designed vehicles that are suited for and fuelled by methane gas.
The world’s first car fuel that carries the Nordic Ecolabel
Natural gas cars emits less CO2 per km compared to cars running on petrol, and since fordonsgas comprises at least 50 percent biogas CO2-emissions per km are decreased even further.
So far it is the first car fuel in the world that has been awarded the Nordic Ecolabel. The car fuel has therefore met several requirements as to energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions for the entire fuel life cycle.
