DONG Energy is one of the leading energy groups in Northern Europe, headquartered in Denmark. Our business is based on procuring, producing, distributing and trading in energy and related products in Northern Europe. We have approximately 6,400 employees and generated £6.2 billion (EUR 7.6 billion) in revenue in 2011.
There are three distinct strands to our activities in the UK – Power, Exploration and Production (E&P) and Sales and Distribution.
DONG Energy Wind Power UK
With more than 20 years’ experience in the wind power industry, DONG Energy is one of the leading offshore wind farm developers in the UK.
We currently operate four wind farms in the UK; the 90 Megawatt (MW) wind farms at Barrow in the East Irish Sea, of which we own 50%; the 90 MW Burbo Bank in Liverpool Bay, of which we own 100%; the 172 MW Gunfleet Sands wind farm in the Thames Estuary, of which we own 50.1%; and the offshore wind farm at Walney Island in the Irish Sea with our partners PGGM, Ampere and SSE, which has a generating capacity of 367 MW, and as of December 2012 is the largest fully operational wind farm in the world.
Major construction activity at the 630 MW Phase 1 of London Array was completed in December 2012 with the wind farm on track to be fully operational in Spring 2013. Once completed, London Array will become the largest operational wind farm in the world.
Construction work at the 389 MW West of Duddon Sands wind farm off the coast of Lancashire, a 50/50 joint venture with our partner ScottishPower Renewables, will begin in 2013 and is expected to be completed during 2014.
DONG Energy has six other UK projects currently at various stages of development including the 270 MW Lincs wind farm with partners Centrica and Siemens; Celtic Array in the Irish Sea which is a 50/50 joint venture with Centrica; the 600 MW First Flight Wind project off the coast of Northern Ireland with our partners B9 Energy and RES; Westermost Rough which is in the development phase and we are sole owners; and planned extensions to our Walney and Burbo Bank wind farms in the Irish Sea.

DONG E&P UK
DONG Energy is one of the most active explorers and developers and leading acerage holders in the West of Shetlands and has strong capabilities and expertise in oil and gas exploration. In the UK Government's latest (27th) oil and gas licencing round DONG Energy was awarded six new licences as operator in the West of Shetlands and two more as a partner - one in the West of Shetlands and one in the Central North Sea, our first licence in the region.
DONG Energy has participated in all new major discoveries in the West of Shetlands region, currently with interests in 10 discoveries. Our long-term exploration and production (E&P) strategy is to build a West of Shetland core production area, which will also include the easternmost part of the Faroe offshore sector. West of Shetland is expected to become a major part of DONG Energy's overall E&P portfolio.
