Location Benefits:
- Only minor potential environmental impacts were concluded for both offshore and onshore installations and after mitigation.
- The offshore biological environment does not comprise of any designated areas and does not represent a key habitat for protected species.
- The area of the proposed wind farm is not frequented by large numbers of marine mammals and is supported neighbouring environments with high carrying capacity.
- The wind farm location has been moved to mitigate against potential collisions in nearby shipping lanes.
- The Westermost Rough wind farm is in proximity to existing onshore wind farms and is deemed less visually polluting and with lower noise impact for the onshore environment.
The project will help to fulfil the UK's commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and will contribute towards the UK achieving its targets of electricity generation from renewable energy schemes.
