Walney Offshore Windfarm - Construction commences
Walney (UK) Offshore Windfarms Limited are delighted to announce that it will shortly be starting the construction of Walney Offshore Windfarm.
The Walney Offshore Windfarm is situated 15km west of Barrow in Furness, Cumbria. The project consists of 102 wind turbines, each turbine can generate up to 3.6MW of electricity, giving a total generation capacity for the Walney project of 367.2MW.The Walney project, will generate up to 367.2MW of clean energy, enough renewable energy for 320,000 homes or one and half times the number of households in Cumbria.
The project will make a considerable contribution to the domestic UK target of reducing CO2 emissions.
Prior to construction commencing there will be three public exhibitions hosted locally by the Walney project, where a team of experts and senior members from the project will be on hand to answer questions and explain the construction process.
Jens Hansen, Project Manager for the Walney project, said,
"The views of local people are very important to us, these three exhibitions are a continuation of the consultation process of discussion with local communities. We hope that local people will take the opportunity to visit one of our exhibitions and we look forward to meeting as many people as possible over the three days."
The exhibition will be open from 2pm to 7pm on: - Wednesday 10th February, The Forum, Duke Street, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria
- Thursday 11th February, St. James Centre, Heysham Road Heysham, Lancashire
- Thursday 18th February, Mostyn Community Centre, Ffordd Aber Mostyn, North Wales
The Walney project teams are committed to consulting with local people and their representatives throughout the construction and operation of their wind farms, and will continue to communicate with communities in the local Cumbria, Lancashire and North Wales areas as the construction proceeds.
