Why offshore wind ?
In January 2008 targets for each nation of EU was proposed by the European Commission with the aim of reducing greenhouse gases by 20% and an increase to 20% of the share of renewable energies in the energy consumption by 2020. To help combat climate change the Energy Secretary John Hutton announced, in December 2007, a plan to develop an additional 25 gigawatts of offshore wind in the UK, which could power the equivalent of all of the UK's homes.
The UK is endowed with one of the best wind regimes in the world and is estimated to have at least one third of the entire European Union wind resource. At DONG Energy we anticipate that our offshore wind projects in the UK will play a key role in achieving the Government and EU targets.
