Slagelse CHP Plant

Slagelse CHP Plant is a straw-fired boiler and steam turbine plant commissioned in 1990. It has a capacity of 12 MW of electricity and 28 MJ/s of heat, corresponding to the electricity consumption of 9,000 households, while the heat production can cover 85% of Slagelse’s heating requirements (around 6,000 households).

The CHP plant is fed with steam and hot water from the waste incineration plant Slagelse Affaldsforbrænding. The steam constitutes around one third of the heat production. The plant consumes approximately 28,000 tonnes of straw annually. Slagelse CHP Plant utilises 90% of the energy in the fuel.
