Ensted Power Station

Opening in 1979, Ensted Power Station is situated at the head of Aabenraa Fjord outside Aabenraa.

The power station has an electrical capacity of 626 MW and generated a net quantity of 2,782 GWh of electricity and 968 TJ of district heating in 2006. Ensted Power Station has approximately 140 employees.

Ensted Power Station has been regularly modernized, and its biofuel boiler plant was commissioned in 1998.



The power station uses coal, straw and chips to generate electricity and district heating.

The power station has the largest coal harbour in Northern Europe. With a water depth of 18 metres the harbour can receive coal vessels carrying up to 180,000 tonnes. The harbour also functions as a transhipment port for DONG Energy’s barge transport activities.
