Natural gas storage – supporting a long-term supply
DONG Energy has access to a number of underground natural gas storage facilities. Natural gas consumption is less during the summer than in winter, and because natural gas is produced throughout the year, these storage facilities enable us to balance natural gas supply in relation to demand.

To improve the energy supply to our customers in Germany and the Netherlands, we are currently building a portfolio of long-term natural gas storage lease contracts.
Storage facilities in Northern Germany
Examples of storage facilities in which DONG Energy has interests are underground natural gas storage facilities in Kiel and Etzel. In general, our lease contracts in Germany include an annual contract of approximately 195 mega cubic meters.
Supporting a long-term energy supply
Besides reducing the consequences of the seasonal spread in demand, the natural gas storage facilities play an important part in DONG Energy’s strategy of being a reliable partner in the long-term supply of energy.
Storage leasing
Energy Markets collaborates with our wholesale customers in relation to natural gas sourcing, storage leasing and risk management. For example, both Energy Markets and our wholesale customers use our natural gas storage facilities. By leasing natural gas storage from us, our wholesale customers are better equipped to adjust energy supply to demand from their customers, the end-users.
