Thermal power generation
DONG Energy’s thermal power production comes from our thirteen central power stations, two small-scale CHP plants, and three Waste-to-Energy (WtE) plants.
Central power stations
We produce more than 80 % of our electricity at our central power stations, which can handle up to 5,372 MW. We regularly update and expand them as necessary. Eight out of thirteen of these stations combine heat and power (CHP) production for much greater efficiency and minimised environmental impact.
Small-scale CHP plants
We produce electricity at two small-scale power stations with a capacity of 216 MW. These highly efficient stations combine heat and power production.
CHP plants primarily use biomass, such as straw and wood chips or natural gas as fuel.
Waste-to-Energy plants
We produce electricity at three Waste-to-Energy plants located in Jutland with a combined installed capacity of 68 MW.
Like the majority of our other plants, these plants combine heat and power production, achieving fuel efficiency ratios of around 90 %.
