Mongstad Power Station

Mongstad Power Station is situated at the west coast of Norway, north of Bergen at the Statoil Mongstad Refinery. It is a combined heat and power plant (CHP) based on a combined cycle.
The electrical capacity is 280 MW and the heat capacity is 350 MJ/s. It comprises 2 gas turbines each of 130 MW with heat recovery units and a steam turbine. It uses natural gas and refinery gas as fuel.
The power station will have an energy efficiency rate of 70 percent at start-up. The high efficiency is obtained by using the heat in the exhaust gas from the gas turbines to produce steam and to pre-heat crude oil for the refinery.
DONG Energy owns Mongstad Power Station, which went into commercial operation in 2010. The project is part of The Mongstad Energy Project at Statoil’s Mongstad Refinery.
