Chairman of the Danish Parliament's Environment Committee, Steen Gade, had just returned from the UN's Rio+20 Earth Summit, when he cut the ribbon to an exhibition on one of the largest offshore wind farms in northern Europe; Anholt Offshore Wind Farm.

”It feels great to continue doing something concrete about solving the job of changing the energy system and resource management. A job so great that it’s necessary to involve all citizens. We’re transforming the entire Danish energy supply, and to help the process along we need knowledge and joy. This exhibition provides both."

A view of the actual wind farm
The DjursWindGlobe exhibition is placed in rooms in and around the Kattegatcentret in Grenaa, which is already one of Djursland’s largest tourist attractions with around 120,000 visitors a year.

The exhibition starts in the globe outside the Kattegatcentret and from here continues inside. The visitors can interact with each other and the exhibited items via touch screens. In other words, it is allowed to touch the exhibited items that give an insight into the enormous accomplishment it is to construct and operate one of Europe’s largest offshore wind farms.

On clear days it is possible to see Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, which DONG Energy is constructing approximately 20 kilometres away, directly from the exhibition room.

The exhibition is made for the broad population and it wishes to spread knowledge about renewable energy and Denmark’s leading position within offshore wind farms.

DjursWindGlobe is the result of a cooperation between a coordination group consisting of Norddjurs Kommune (the local authorities), Havets Hus (development project) and Destination Djursland (a cooperation between two local authorities on tourism). In addition to the coordination group which is the project facilitator, DjursWindGlobe is funded by DONG Energy, Siemens Wind Power and A2SEA. Moreover, the project has received a lot of support from local companies including Djursland Bank, Kattegatcentret, Port of Grenaa, Djurs Wind Power and Aalsrode Tømrerfirma.
