DONG Energy to test new Vestas offshore wind turbine
Vestas and DONG Energy have entered into cooperation on testing of Vestas’ new V164-7.0 MW offshore wind turbine at DONG Energy’s demonstration site in the waters off Frederikshavn in Northern Jutland.
The new Vestas turbine is designed specifically for the harsh conditions at sea.
The turbine is scheduled for installation in 2013 at the demonstration site, where DONG Energy has permission to install a total of six demonstration turbines.
”Demonstration activities are an important part of maintaining and developing DONG Energy’s position as a market leader in offshore wind power," says Anders Eldrup, CEO of DONG Energy. "New and more efficient turbines are a crucial part of the efforts to reduce the construction costs for offshore wind farms.”
Precisely the efforts to reduce the costs of constructing offshore wind farms are one of the focal points of the cooperation between DONG Energy and Vestas, and the V164-7.0 MW turbine is expected to play a key role.
