DONG Energy provides road lighting
The operation and maintenance of 17,000 street lights on and along main roads and motorways in eastern Denmark is not a small task on a Danish scale. On the contrary, ensuring road lighting is a very special job, partly due to the fact that there are special conditions to be considered when working on the road network. DONG Energy was awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of street lighting in eastern Denmark until 2017, in competition with three other Danish companies.
Experience, pricing and volume were deciding factors
Competitive pricing, qualified staff, the right equipment and efficient processes decided the matter, according to the Danish Road Directorate.
"We already own, operate and maintain 250,000 street lights in 29 municipalities in northern Zealand. In addition to this, there is the operation and maintenance of 5,000 street lights in Frederiksberg. Consequently, we have the experience and the size required to perform the job for the Danish Road Directorate and we are, of course, happy to be selected", says Lars Møller-Jørgensen, DONG Energy's Director of City Light.
There are several elements to the task: Inspections and main inspections, 24/7 duty scheme and monitoring, batch replacements, operation and maintenance and, especially in the case of motorways, lane closures and work outside normal hours
