At DONG Energy, we wish to strengthen our business by developing new technologies which enhance the rate of recovery in the existing oil and gas fields. Furthermore, we focus on developing new technologies which will better enable us to discover new reserves in cold regions and in deep water.

These activities will contribute to the extension of the period during which Denmark is self-sufficient in oil and natural gas and will benefit the Danish economy and DONG Energy.

A very large share of Denmark’s current reserves will be too costly to produce using existing technology. We use advanced biotechnology including enzymes in one of our projects of which the objective is to find methods for enhancing the recovery rate. Furthermore, we work on developing biotech solutions to remedy decomposition of pipes and process equipment, and clogging of gas pipelines.

Another project deals with injection of water with low salt content. A third project focuses on the development of methods for interpreting seismic data. This in order to enhance the possibilities of discovering new oil and gas reserves in particularly complex geological structures, ia in the areas west of the Shetland islands and in the Barents Sea.
