Poul-Jacob Vilhelmsen, Senior engineer

Why DONG Energy?
Only once in 20 years have I had to do the same kind of task twice, so there is great variation in my job. There is freedom and opportunities to specialise in whichever direction you like. That makes DONG Energy an exciting place to work. I work in Project Development and Engineering, primarily with construction projects at the power stations plants.

Developing CO2-free power plants
I am currently working on a development project with the objective of absorbing and separating CO2 from the flue gasses produced by coal-fired power plants.

From project staff to project manager
I am a mechanical engineer and I have worked on civil engineering projects at a variety of power plants. I helped set up the coal-fired power plant, Fynsværket, the gas-fired power plant Skærbækværk, the transformer platform at the offshore Horns Rev wind farm, and a number of small-scale construction jobs.  I have also worked with environment-enhancing plants, including as project manager on the CASTOR research and development project.

Critical skills
In my job, it is important to have both good technical insight and the ability to see the broader perspective. There is a lot of planning involved with large-scale power plant conversions, so it is important that things happen at the right time and within the set technical and financial constraints.
