Meet our CEO

Anders Eldrup, CEO, DONG EnergySince 2001 Anders Eldrup has been the CEO of DONG Energy, one of Northern-Europe’s leading energy companies. He has spearheaded the growth strategy which, among other things, in 2006 led to the merger of six Danish energy companies into the integrated energy company DONG Energy.

While Anders Eldrup today leads one of Denmark’s biggest companies, he also has considerable experience from the public sector. He enrolled at Aarhus University in 1967 as a student of political science and obtained his masters degree in 1972. He joined the Department of Budget at the Ministry of Finance the following year and from 1980 to 1984 he was Personal Secretary to the Minister. Over the next years Anders Eldrup held various management positions with the Ministry and in 1991 he accepted the position as Permanent Secretary of State – a position he held until he joined DONG ten years later.

Throughout his many years with the Ministry Anders Eldrup worked closely with various Ministers of Finance and he participated in the elaboration of numerous government papers and political negotiations.

Anders Eldrups’ time with the Ministry covers the period from the mid 70’s, when the oil crisis knocked the Danish economy over and energy reached the political agenda, to the new millennium, when Denmark found itself with one of the strongest economies of Europe.

The 2009 Danish Canon on Leadership gives prominence to Anders Eldrup for his leadership of the Ministry of Finance that “discretely and steadily led Denmark from the depths of economic dismay to the 21st century’s globalization and changed borders between public and private.”

In 2009 Anders Eldrup became Chairman of Copenhagen Cleantech Cluster. The Partnership consists of around 40 public and private companies and institutions who work to create one of the world’s leading cleantech clusters in the Copenhagen and Zealand area.
